Enrico Pedrotti

Enrico Pedrotti (1905 - 1965) was a photographer who worked in the regions of Trentino and South Tyrol in northern Italy between the 1920s and 1960s. After training with Giuseppe Brunner, a photographer known for his picturesque visual language, Enrico worked for Trento-based photographer Tenuti. In 1929, he opened a photography studio with his brothers that specialized in montane and alpine-sports photography. In addition to running the business, he devoted himself to experimental photography and became inolved with avant garde movements and futurism, and he collaborated with the futurist Fortunato Depero. Thanks to his early fondness for the interplay between light and shadow, he is attributed as a pioneer of high-key lighting.

In 1937, Luca left the family business to his brothers and established his own photo studio in Bolzano, with a focus on portrait, industrial and commercial photography. To accompany his professional portrait photography, he also wrote theoretical texts. Additionally, he engaged with moving images, creating the short films Tecnica di roccia (Climbing Techniques on Rock Terrain) in 1938 and Monologo sul sesto grado (Monologue about the Sixth Degree of Difficulty) in 1953.

The first major recognition of his work came in 1934, when he was published in the professional journal Luci ed Ombre (Light and Shadow). In 1943, Domus published his work in the annual Fotografia. Prima rassegna dell’attività fotografica in Italia (Photograhy. Survey of Photographic Works in Italy), followed by other publications in photographic journals of the time.

Luca Pedrotti was born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1943. The world of photography has fascinated him from the time he was a child. As an adolescent, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Enrico Pedrotti, an important figure in Bolzano’s photography scene. In 1957, Luca was already working at the family studio in Bolzano and has been a professional photographer ever since.

In the 1960s, Luca honed his skills working for the manufacturer Linhof in Munich, Germany, learning how to use the view camera (optical bench) and the technique of gigantography (large format print). Among his clients are regional and national public authorities, including Enel (energy cooperation for electricity and natural gas), Sip (public telephone company) and Rai (Italian public television). In addition to commercial photography, he also does architectural and portrait photography. He the official photographer of the pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, among others.

His long-time collaboration with the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano (State Theater of Bolzano) has also been of vital importance to his career.

Luca has published multiple photography books, including Bolzano, My City, Prague 360°, Berlin 360° and New York 360° (Priuli and Verlucca). His work can also be seen in several Italian magazines. His exhibitions featuring his father and the photography Studio Pedrotti have met with great response.

Fotografo attivo tra gli anni ‘20 e gli anni ‘60 del ‘900 in Trentino Alto Adige (1905-1965).
Si forma a Trento con il “pittoricista” Giuseppe Brunner per poi lavorare con Tenuti e infine aprire nel 1929, assieme ai fratelli, uno studio fotografico dove si specializza in immagini di montagna e sport alpini. Oltre al lavoro di bottega si dedica alla sperimentazione in campo fotografico, avvicinandosi alle avanguardie nordiche e al futurismo (collabora con Fortunato Depero). Grazie alla precoce attrazione per i giochi di luci e ombre è annoverato fra i precursori della fotografia high key.

Nel 1937 lascia l’attività di famiglia per trasferirsi a Bolzano, nello studio in via della Mostra, dove si dedica al ritratto (scrive pagine teoriche sul ritratto come soggetto professionale), alla fotografia industriale e alla pubblicità. Si occupa di cinema con il cortometraggio “Tecnica di Roccia” (1938) e il film “Monologo sul 6° grado” (1953).
Nel 1934 il primo importante riconoscimento con l’inserimento in “Luci ed Ombre”.
Del 1943 la citazione nell’annuario “Fotografia. Prima rassegna dell’attività fotografica in Italia” edito da Domus e su diverse altre riviste di settore dell’epoca.

Nato a Bolzano nel 1943, si appassiona alla fotografia fin da ragazzino seguendo le orme del padre Enrico Pedrotti, figura importante per la fotografia bolzanina dell’epoca. Si forma sotto la sua guida nell’atelier di famiglia - dal 1957 - proseguendo poi l’attività di fotografo professionista a Bolzano, fino ai nostri giorni. Lavora per importanti enti pubblici locali e nazionali (Enel, Sip, Rai e altri ancora) e si perfeziona nelle tecniche di ripresa con il banco ottico presso la "Linhof" di Monaco (anni ’60) e nella stampa di gigantografie.
Accanto al genere pubblicitario i temi trattati sono quelli dell’architettura industriale e del paesaggio alternati al ritratto, è infatti fotografo ufficiale di Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

E’ inoltre significativa e costante, nella sua carriera di fotografo, la collaborazione con il Teatro Stabile di Bolzano. Ha illustrato vari libri, tra cui Bolzano, la mia città, Praga 360°, Berlino 360°, New York 360° (Priuli & Verlucca editori) e le pagine di alcuni periodici nazionali. Le sue mostre dedicate al padre Enrico e al Fotostudio Pedrotti hanno suscitato grande risonanza anche a livello nazionale.

Ein Fotograf (1905 – 1965), der zwischen den 20er und 60er Jahren in den Regionen Trentino und Südtirol tätig war. Nach seiner Ausbildung bei dem Fotografen Giuseppe Brunner, der für seine malerische Bildsprache bekannt war, arbeitet Enrico Pedrotti bei dem Trienter Fotografen Tenuti. Im Jahr 1929 eröffnet er mit seinen Brüdern ein Fotoatelier und spezialisiert sich auf Berg- und alpine Sportfotografie. Neben dem Tagesgeschäft widmet er sich fotografischen Experimenten und nähert sich dabei avantgardistischen Strömungen und dem Futurismus an. Er arbeitet mit dem Futuristen Fortunato Depero zusammen. Seiner frühen Vorliebe für Licht-und Schattenspiele verdankt er, den Vorreitern des high key zugeordnet zu werden.

Im Jahr 1937 überlässt er den Familienbetrieb den Brüdern und eröffnet sein eigenes Fotostudio in der Mustergasse in Bozen, wo er sich mit Portrait-, Industrie- und Werbefotografie beschäftigt. Zur professionellen Portraitfotografie verfasst er auch theoretische Texte.Hinzu kommt die Beschäftigung mit dem bewegten Bild in Form der Kurzfilme„Tecnica di roccia“ (Klettertechnik im Fels) im Jahr 1938 und „Monologo sul sesto grado“ (Monolog über den 6. Schwierigkeitsgrad) im Jahr 1953.

Die erste wichtige Anerkennung kommt im Jahr 1934, als seine Arbeit in der Fachzeitschrift „Luci ed Ombre“ (Licht und Schatten) veröffentlicht wird.Aus dem Jahr 1943 stammt die Veröffentlichung im Jahrbuch „Fotografia. Prima rassegna dell'attività fotografica in Italia“ (Fotografie. Auswahl der italienischen fotografischen Arbeit) herausgegeben von Domus. Es folgen weitere Veröffentlichungen in Fotofachzeitschriften der damaligen Zeit.
 

Luca Pedrotti

Er wurde in Bozen im Jahr 1943 geboren. Die fotografische Welt begeistert ihn schon seit seiner Kindheit. Er tritt als Jugendlicher in die Fußstapfen seines Vaters Enrico Pedrotti, der zu dieser Zeit zu einem bedeutenden Fotografen in der damaligen Bozner Szene avanciert war. Im Jahr 1957 arbeitet Luca Pedrotti bereits im Familienatelier in Bozen und ist bis zu unseren Tagen als professioneller Fotograf tätig.

In den 60er Jahren perfektioniert er sein Fachwissen beim Hersteller „Linhof“ in München, erlernt den Umgang mit der Fachkamera und die Technik der Gigantographie. Er arbeitet für relevante örtliche und überregionale Behörden, u.a. Enel (Energiekonzern für Strom und Erdgas) Sip (staatliche Telefonges.), und Rai (Italienisches Staatsfernsehen). Neben der Werbefotografie übt er auch die Architektur- und Portraitfotografie aus. Er ist unter anderem der offizielle Fotograf des Pianisten Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

Von Bedeutung für seine Laufbahn ist auch die langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit dem „Teatro Stabile di Bolzano“ (Bozner Staatstheater). Mit seinen Fotografien sind mehrere Bildbände veröffentlicht worden, wie z.B. Bozen, meine Stadt, Prag 360°, Berlin 360°, New York 360° (Priuli und Verlucca Hrsg.). Seine Arbeiten sind in verschiedenen italienischen Zeitschriften erschienen. Große Resonanz erweckten seine Ausstellungen über seinen Vater Enrico und das Fotostudio Pedrotti.
